Digital Photography (Winter 2019)

Throughout the course of this class, we were instructed to do 3 different projects using a DSLR camera along with learning how to use Lightroom and Photoshop. Below, my projects will be further explained.

Project 3: Photographing People

For this project, we were instructed to find models and practicing shooting people. That’s it. I decided to use Jessie and to have them show me two completely different sides of themself. The first set of photos are the ones presented in class and the second set are all the others. I decided to do a direct side-by-side of Jessie’s different sides for the presentation aspect so here we are! 🙂 This was also the first time I actively used Photoshop to edit some photos. The only PS edited ones are in the first 6. The others were quickly edited in Lightroom.

Project 2: Typology

For this project, we were supposed to create a set of images that were different but had something consistent tying them all together. For me, I decided to start a project that I am VERY passionate about and have been wanting to do for a while. I chose to photograph queer people nude. For this, I wanted to show the different types of bodies queer people have. All of these people were assigned female-at-birth but use different pronouns and have very different bodies. In the future, I hope to continue this project to be intersectional with male-bodied people, intersex people, people of color, more sizes, etc. However, with the time constraint the class gave me and the amount of people I needed to get involved, this is what I was able to come up with. Needless to say, it’s a start. This is what I have so far… (LOOK AT THESE BEAUTIFUL BODIES)

Project 1: Places of Routine

For my “place of routine” I chose bathrooms. They have become such a political space but why? This is where people come, do their business, and leave, right? But is there more to them that we tend to ignore? This is what I hoped to capture. (Below are the images I presented in class and edited but also a few more that aren’t completely edited but are also part of the project.)
