This section is solely to view my projects as a list of the courses I’ve taken throughout my undergraduate journey at Eastern Michigan University. There are a lot of odds and ends so this is just to organize it all.
Introduction to Painting (Winter 2020): This is a majors version of an introduction to painting. This course is focusing on acrylic techniques and styles. I learned how to build, stretch, and prime a canvas, as well as different painting techniques I previously had not known about or used. Despite painting all my life, I’ve learned so much and used this class as a chance to step out of my comfort zone and expand on my abilities as a painter.
Introduction to Ceramics (Winter 2020): This is the non-majors version of the course. Once again, I decided to play with clay! (This time with a much better instructor.) I’m so proud of and excited about what I was able to create in this class. Check it out!
Introduction to Watercolor (Fall 2019): This course explored multiple techniques and ways to paint with watercolor. We had 3 projects including a still life, the “grid” project, and our final; a piece of a collage we made. I don’t know that I really enjoy watercolor but I am grateful for the knowledge and experience!
Digital Photography (Winter 2019): Throughout the course of this class, we were instructed to do 3 different projects using a DSLR camera along with learning how to use Lightroom and Photoshop. The projects included documenting places of routine, utilizing a typology, and photographing people. I have grown so much as a photographer and I can only hope it continues! 🙂
Introduction to Ceramics (Fall 2018): This is the art major version of the class. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve played with clay but here I am! Back at it! My first project was stoneware mugs (glazed), followed by a terra cotta abstract vase (glazed with black matte), then a terra cotta large pot (using extruded pieces, slipped with pansy and glazed with pansy), ending with a life sized self-portrait bust (using terra sigillata then brushed with umber stain). I did a few extra works including a terra cotta leaf bowl (using a green glaze), and a small flower pot using leaves and other plants to press in the design to the pot (then using terra sigillata and brush with umber).
Art 101 (Winter 2018) : I took this class as a general education requirement and my professor scolded me for taking intro to art as a 4th semester art student. This class was filled with drawing, painting, abstract things, and even a little bit of sculpture!
Creative Writing (Fall 2017): I’ve always loved to write (if that’s not a given) and so creative writing got me out of my shell. While there are many different things that I experimented with, here are some key points!
Introduction to Film Photography (Fall 2017): Although this is not my first encounter with film, it is my first undergraduate experience! Projects include: Pinholes and photograms, self-portraits, political issue, an extra Honors project titled “Lend a Hand” which will be continuing in more parts later on, and finally, a semi-digital time-based project.
Introductory Drawing (Winter 2017): My attempts to draw properly surrounded by a lot of frustration and irritation.
2D Design (Fall 2016): Acrylic painting, collage, minimal drawing, and so much more!
